Avoiding a 'no-heat' situation in the middle of winter

 1.The Area Around the Heater

Do not store or use flammable objects, liquids or vapors near the heater.

 2.Vehicle and Other Objects

Do not hang anything from, or place anything on, the heater. Nothing should be lodged underneath the reflector, in between the tubes or in the decorative or protective grilles (included with select models).

 3.Reflector

Do not use the heater if there is dirt, sagging, cracking or distortion. Clean reflector surface with a damp cloth, if needed. Support with reflector hanger and support strap. Reflector must not touch the tube. Overlap must be installed per the Installation, Operation and Service Manual.

 4.Vent Pipe and Outside Air Inlet

Look for dirt, obstructions, cracks on the pipe, gaps in the sealed areas of corrosion. Clean or replace as required. Do not use the heater if there is dirt, sagging, cracking or distortion. Remove any carbon deposits or scale using a wire brush.

 5.Heat Exchanger Tube

Must be connected and suspended securely. Do not use the heater if there is dirt, sagging, cracking or distortion. Clean or replace as required. 

 6.Gas Line

Check for gas leaks per the Installation, Operation and Service Manual. 

 7.Burner Observation Window

Must be clean and free of cracks or holes. Clean or replace as required. 

 8.Burner Head, Cup and Orifice

Remove dust, debris and clear obstructions. Clean or replace as required.

 9.Igniter and Electrode

Replace if cracked, broken, eroded or showing signs of wear.

 10.Thermostat, Sensor and Control Device

There should be no exposed wire or damage to the device or wiring. Replace as required.

 11.Suspension Points

Heater must be hanging securely. Look for signs of wear on the chain or ceiling. Replace as required.

 12.Filter (CoRayVac® Only)

Check for dirt or dust. Clean or replace as required. 

 13.Pump (CoRayVac®, Vantage® NP or COMPLETE™ CTHND and Blackheat™ NP1 Only)

Check the inlet and outlet of the pump for blockage or excessive soot and clean as required. Check boots for cracking or deterioration and replace as required. Check the condition of the motor mounts. Lift the motor from the rear; look for breaks in the rubber and replace as required. 

 14.Couplings

Must be securely tightened around heat exchanger tube within the tolerance shown in the Installation, Operation and Service Manual. Clean or replace as required.

 15.Turbulator

When applicable, the turbulator must be installed within the parameters set within the Installation, Operation and Service Manual. Replace or adjust as required.

 16.Wall Tag

If a wall tag is present, make sure it is legible and accurate. Please contact us or your local independent distributor if you need an additional copy or replacement. 

 17.Safety Labels and Signs

Product safety signs or labels should be replaced by the product user when they are no longer legible. Please contact us or your local independent distributor for replacement signs or labels.

To help facilitate optimum performance and safety, Roberts-Gordon LLC recommends that a qualified contractor conduct, at a minimum, annual inspections of your ROBERTS GORDON® equipment and perform service where necessary, using only replacement parts sold and supplied by Roberts Gordon LLC.
